Crime Writers & Libraries: MWA NorCal Mystery Writers of America (membership fee, but NorCal meetings are open to all) has many resources for new writers, from mentors and manuscript evaluations to data bases of libraries and bookshops. The NorCal Chapter of MWA serves northern California and Nevada. Check out some library-themed resources for writers below!
Authors for Libraries (American Library Association; annual fee)—a website/database linking libraries and Friends groups to their local authors.
Reader to Reader (Mystery Writers of America)— a non-profit organization that donatesfree books to libraries in the nation’s most underserved communities.

SELF-e Program (Library Journal)—for Indie authors to donate their e-books to libraries.
Indie Author Day—local events (Berkeley, Marin, Santa Cruz) linking indie writers and library users, plus a “digital gathering” with writers, agents, and industry professionals.
Many public libraries host writing groups, such as the Rockridge branch of the Oakland Public library (once a month) and the Lakeview branch.
